Come Home

by Joelistics

/

about

Come Home was written some months in to becoming a new parent after an argument fuelled by sleeplessness and stress and a pile up of worries.
It's an acknowledgement that holding it together is hard but worth it.
Ultimately, it's about the decision to remain present and draw from the well of generosity, understanding and love even when you feel the well has run dry.

lyrics

Got a little bit of peace of mind. Let it multiply, let it all fall out of frame
Took a little bit to read your mind but I don’t mind, I know that’s how you play
We go and guard our hope. Get hard luck low. Get away
We go and carve our trope. And charge our throats with bitter praise

Falling out the door and I’m left out in the cold
Calling out your name I hope you hear me through the walls

(chorus)
Oh, my love I’m coming home
All my love I’m coming home to you

Took a little bit to piece my mind into something wild
I was hiding there in the grey OK, some of this is hard to say
God I want to get high and find time stretch out, put the damn phone down, don’t take yourself away
We go and carve our dope
and calm our folks
just to palm our notes
and starve our hope
we go and rob them boats
and charm our growth. Are you Ok?

(chorus)
Oh, my love I’m coming home
All my love I’m coming home to you
Don’t want my world to be undone, again
Don’t want my heart to be in a rut, and then
(chorus)
Oh, my love I’m coming home
All my love I’m coming home to you

Come Home was written at my studio in Brunswick with the ledge bag Jules Pascoe after he had moved in to one of the neighbouring studios. We threw around the chords then I came back and recorded the main acoustic part. Jules laid down the bass, electric guitar and rhodes parts in the first session, I played piano and added synth sprinkles later down the track. The cracking drums are from the maestro Leigh Fisher who has a studio next door. The mix was finished by the ever patient detailed ears of Robert Muinos.
